  Huddersfield offers a comprehensive selection of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, spanning a wide range of subject areas. It has dedicated a lot of time and resources in recent years to provide a superb quality of tuition, which is recognised at an international level.   Huddersfield is among the top 20 universities in the UK for industry placements. Huddersfield's postgraduate courses are closely linked to business and many of them are professionally accredited, which helps increase the employability of the university's graduates. 96 percent of undergraduate students and 95.2 percent of postgraduate students from Huddersfield move on to further study or employment within 15 months of graduating (HESA, 2020).

Teaching quality

The University of Huddersfield focuses a large proportion of its resources and personnel into ensuring the highest quality of teaching, combined with a progressive and industry-relevant curriculum.

  The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) shows that the University of Huddersfield's teaching staff are the best qualified in England across a range of measures. 94 percent of lecturers hold specific teaching qualifications, 96 percent of lecturers have higher education academic qualifications, the highest percentage in the country, and 77 percent of those hold doctorates (HESA, 2022). Students can rest assured that they will be taught by the very best at Huddersfield, no matter what they decide to study.

  Many of the university's teaching staff are active practitioners in their academic fields, and this shows in the success of the university's research programmes. Huddersfield has a well-established Research Excellence Framework as the university submitted 589 staff across nineteen Units of Assessment (UoA) to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, receiving outstanding results. It has climbed more than seventeen places since 2014 to rank within the top 50 institutions in the UK. Two-thirds of its research portfolio is world-leading, and it sits within the top 20 universities for increasing research power.

  

Fees & funding

Huddersfield is dedicated to providing fair access to education and has organised a programme of scholarships and bursary awards to help subsidise the cost of study. There are merit-based and means-tested options available to eligible international students.

  International undergraduate students can receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 12,000 (£4,000 for every year) of their course, based on academic achievements. GBP 4,000 is awarded for an achievement of AAB at A-level (or equivalent), GBP 3,000 is awarded for ABB at A-level (or equivalent), and up to GBP 2,000 is awarded annually for meeting standard entry requirements. For most courses, students are considered automatically for these financial awards upon enrolment.

  International postgraduate students can also receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 4,000 if they have the equivalent of a first-class degree (Hons) or GBP 3,000 for an upper second or equivalent.

  With competitive fees a low cost of living and a generous merit-based scholarships system in place, Huddersfield provides excellent value for international students from all over the world.

  

Facilities

Huddersfield's large award-winning campus is home to all six schools and 41 impressive buildings.

  The campus has recently had a large financial investment of over GBP 156 million to build some world-class facilities and exciting new buildings.

  The next large-scale infrastructure project is a Health Innovation Campus, at their nearby Southgate location. The new proposal would take the place of the old Huddersfield Sports Centre, and planning permission was granted for the new university complex in 2020.

  The University of Huddersfield's main Queensgate campus is a well-resourced student environment, offering everything needed for academic and personal success. The campus is home to the Huddersfield Students' Union, which is a student-run organisation representing students and advising them on any issues and opportunities which may concern them during their course. Working closely with the university, the HSU co-ordinates over 100 student-organised clubs, societies and sports teams, as well as a radio station (Radio Hud), magazine and website (T'Hud).

  Student Central is also home to student shops and cafes, including Starbucks, the international kitchen, the Student Advice and Support Centre, the International Office and the lettings agency (HudLets) which helps students to find their ideal university accommodation. HudLets ensures high-quality accommodation at fair prices, by working closely with halls of residences and private landlords in the local area. On campus students will also find:

Student support

The University of Huddersfield is dedicated to providing the highest level of support services to its student population to inspire success and contribute to a great student experience. There is a large team of friendly and approachable support staff, distributed across a network of specialised departments, who offer targeted support as well as the ability to refer students to further professional resources where necessary. Services include:

  Finance, Fees and Payments - includes tuition fee information, guidance with budgeting and loan payments, accommodation and cost of living advice International Student Support - free service, helping international students settle in with confidence, as well as advice regarding visas, bursaries and insurance matters Wellbeing Support - support with general health issues, free and confidential counselling and an on-site clinic Disability Support - provides information about disability in the workplace, skill-building workshops and disability awareness amongst all members of the campus community Faith and Religion - prayer and worship on-campus programmes, through the university's own Faith Centre Career Support - provides a high-quality, guidance with CV writing, interview training, job seeking, work experience and volunteering opportunities Work placement - a dedicated work-placement team supports students into placements across the UK and around the globe Applicant support - When a student applies to Huddersfield they will be invited to regular applicant drop-in sessions, webinars and Information Days which are open for enquirers and applicants.

  

Student safety

The University of Huddersfield is an extremely safe campus, with a long list of measures and policies set in place to ensure that all students and staff can work and study in confidence. There are plenty of resources dedicated to supporting this including a campus security team, who operate out of the Security Hub, and a specialised security office in the Harold Wilson Building, which is open and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  The team provides a range of services including campus patrols, monitoring CCTV, building access, lost property inquiries and personal safety around campus. If a student feels unsafe in any way, they can visit the Security Hub and have one of the staff members provide advice, which can include calling a taxi to get home.

  The Security Hub also publishes a range of online safety information, as well as organising the university ID card access system. Any lost or stolen ID cards can be replaced at the office, to ensure a safe and secure campus.

  

Graduate outcomes

A degree from the University of Huddersfield is a globally recognised qualification which sets graduates apart from their peers when applying for competitive job roles in today's global workforce. 96.0 percent of the university's undergraduate students are employed in work or have gone on to further study within fifteen months of graduating and 95.2 percent of its postgraduates find work or further study. (HESA Graduate Outcomes 2019/20), which is substantially higher than the UK average.

  The University of Huddersfield's innovative approach to helping students find work after graduating has seen the institution win the best university employability strategy award at the National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2021. Huddersfield was also awarded 5 stars by QS overall, including for internationalisation and inclusiveness.

  Part of their success is due to the quality of their dedicated Careers and Employability Service, which helps in a variety of ways, from CV writing support, job opportunity seeking, interview training, and a schedule of networking events and workshops organised throughout the academic year.
