Graduates of the M.S. program are ready to enter industry or begin Ph.D.-level work in data science, making the program a perfect starting point for those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in the field or furthering their career. BGSU?s Master of Science in Data Science program is interdisciplinary. Students benefit by working with and learning from expert faculty representing three departments: Computer Science, Mathematics & Statistics, and Applied Statistics & Operations Research. BGSU provides an education that blends those three disciplines in a robust fashion, resulting in graduates that have a breadth and depth of knowledge in all three disciplines. Individuals in the M.S. program at BGSU learn to acquire, clean and organize structured and unstructured datasets and develop appropriate techniques to analyze structured, unstructured or dynamic datasets. The M.S. in Data Science program requires 30 credit hours. The courses in the program are evenly split between computer science, mathematical statistics, and applied statistics. The capstone experience is a project-oriented class in which students fully model and analyze a significant dataset. The courses in the program give ideal preparation for the Ph.D. program in Data Science, and simultaneously prepare graduates to work as data scientists in industry.
