About the course
The MS in animal biotechnology and biomedical sciences program at UMass Amherst provides rigorous and comprehensive training to prepare scientists for careers in academia and the biotechnology and biomedical research industry. In this research-focused program you will gain a deep understanding of hypothesis-driven experimental?design?and deepen your scientific knowledge. Take advantage of research opportunities in?immunology, infectious disease, developmental biology, reproductive biology, cancer research, and toxicology. In addition, you can supplement lab work with courses in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, immunology and infectious diseases, genetics, biostatistics, and developmental biology. Be part of a collaborative environment that includes renowned faculty, postdoctoral fellows from around the world, and other dedicated graduate students, and utilize interdepartmental research opportunities, including programs in molecular and cellular biology,?neuroscience and behavior, and organismic and evolutionary biology. The ABBS Graduate Program offers research opportunities that foster creative excellence, technical mastery, intellectual independence, and expertise in the field of molecular and cellular biology. Our faculty members' research encompass areas of immunology, infectious disease, developmental biology, reproductive biology and toxicology. Research topics focus on issues directly relevant to humans and agriculturally important animals. The strong commitment of our faculty members to quality graduate education is evidenced by the continued placement of ABBS graduates in excellent career and post-doctoral positions. The ABBS Graduate Program is housed primarily in the Integrated Sciences Building, a newly built, state-of-the-art research facility that houses laboratories equipped for tissue culture, micro-manipulation of cells and embryos, protein purification, genetic engineering, molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Massachusetts - Amherst
Applicants must include a completed online application form, two letters of recommendation and completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). International students who are not from an English-speaking country (i.e., one whose national language is English) must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and score at least 550 (paper based test) or 80 (computer based test). IELTS - 6.5
Applicants must complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned. Students are required to submit an explanation that address any grades falling below a letter grade B or a GPA of 3.0 by US standards.
