About the course

The School of Biomedical Science and Pharmacy has primary responsibility for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (including Biomedical Science Honours 2019), as of 2013 the new Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) The Bachelor of Biomedical Science has an intake of approximately 100 students per year and is rated by students as one of the University's most sought after degrees. The School also provides teaching in the basic medical sciences (anatomy, physiology, immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, and pharmacology) in almost every degree delivered by the Faculty of Health and Medicine, as well as some of the degrees offered by the Faculty of Education and Arts, and the Faculty of Science. In total, the School teaches into 71 courses taken by over 1200 full-time equivalent students enrolled in 15 different programs. Students enrolled in study areas as diverse as medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, medical radiation science, podiatry, oral health and exercise and sports science all come into contact with staff of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy. How to apply

Entry requirements for The University of Newcastle

An applicant for admission to candidature for a Doctoral Degree (Research) shall:

　　i) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor with Honours Class 1 or Honours Class II, Division 1 or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training), or

　　ii) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor in the University or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training), and have achieved by subsequent work and study a standard recognised by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) as equivalent to at least Honours Class II, Division 1, or

　　iii) in exceptional cases submit evidence of possessing such other academic or professional qualifications and/or experience as may be approved by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the relevant School, or

　　iv) in the disciplines of education, medical physics, nursing, social work, social sciences and surgery have completed a minimum standard of professional experience as required by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the School, An Australian honours degree with Class 1 or Class 2 division 1. For international students, a four year bachelor degree including a significant research training component attained at a high standard, is commonly considered equivalent to an Australian honours degree, and
