About the course

The Food Science major in the Bachelor of Science introduces you to the science behind the food we eat. It can open the door to a wide range of careers in food science.

　　Food innovation is driven by trends like reducing sugar, sodium and fat, using more natural flavourings and colourings, and improving the shelf-life of foods. Food scientists are critical in the production of food. They develop new food products, improve sensory attributes and nutritional content of foods, and find new ways to preserve, process, package and distribute food.

　　Study food science and become familiar with food chemistry, food microbiology, sensory science, food product development and food processing and technology. How to apply

Entry requirements for Auckland University of Technology

IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher, or equivalent. TOEFL IBT – 80.

　　Equivalent to New Zealand Year 13.

　　International Baccalaureate (IB) with successful completion of a minimum of 24 points.

　　Cambridge International Examination - a minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff* at A or AS level from any subjects which are broadly equivalent to the subjects in the NCEA approved subject list. Must include at least three subjects (excluding Thinking Skills) with grades D or above. Numeracy: A minimum grade of D in International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) mathematics or any mathematics subject at AS or A level. Literacy: A minimum grade of E in English Language and/or English Literature subject at AS or A level.

　　General Certificate of Education (GCE) with three A-levels including at least one C gradeor better. A result in General Studies cannot be included among the 3 on which the application is based.
