About the course
The Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Photography is designed to balance your acquisition of technical skill with the theoretical and conceptual tools required by you as a photographic artist. You will explore the dynamic technical and historical relationships photography has to the world of visual representation.
The photography program is designed to teach you essential skills in a variety of digital and analogue formats, with an emphasis on conceptual development. The major in photography prepares you to continue your artistic practice, provides you the skills required to work as a professional photographer and provides the necessary requirements for you to continue on to graduate studies.
Extensive facilities for both film-based and digital imaging. Students have access to a gang darkroom and individual film processing cubicles, as well as a suite of computers available for digital photographic work. Technical staff are available to assist with equipment booking and inquiries.A faculty of accomplished artists, scholars, educators and leaders in their craft. Entry requirements for Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University
NSCAD University offers a range of programs for those wishing to pursue art studies during each of three semesters beginning in September, January and May. Applicants can submit their applications as one of the following applicant types: Foundation/Foundation Transfer - For applicants who are high-school graduates or who have not studied visual arts at the post-secondary level for a full academic year. Advanced Standing - For applicants who have taken at minimum the equivalent of NSCAD's Foundation Program. Advanced Standing Art History (Non-Studio) - For applicants who are interested in completing a Bachelors of Art Major in Art History and have completed one year of Liberal Arts studies at another post-secondary institution. Visiting - For applicants who are enrolled in a degree program from another institution interested in taking courses at NSCAD for credit. Exchange- For students at a partner school who wish to study at NSCAD for a semester. Non-Degree - For audit opportunities and applicants who wish to take courses for credit at NSCAD but who do not wish to study as an undergrdaute student. Pre-University Students - For high school student who would like to take a course at NSCAD for university credit in the summer before they enter Grade 12.
You will need to submit an admissions essay, official transcript from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended, a portfolio of your work, and a List of Work. Letters of Recommendation may also be submitted, but these are optional for Undergraduates. You will be able to upload your portfolio documents, essay, and list of works as part of the online application process. Transcripts, English test scores, and references need to be mailed to the Office of Admissions by the issuing schools or the referees.
