With over 90 academic and professional/technical programs to choose from, international students prepare for successful careers at Shoreline. Students complete the first two years of an undergraduate degree at Shoreline, and then transfer to a top U.S. university for two more years to complete their degree.
While it is encouraged, international students are not required to take the TOEFL or any other English proficiency test to be accepted at Shoreline. If students choose not to take an exam in advance or do not place at an academic level, there is an English language placement test they will take during International Student Orientation to determine their English level.
Shoreline is located on a peaceful, 83-acre campus, just two kilometres north of the city of Seattle. In a beautiful region known as the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is a vibrant city that also has stunning natural scenery. There are huge variety of locations and activities for students to enjoy, including national parks and beaches.
Seattle is also home to many Fortune 500 companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks. Shoreline alumni often find opportunities for their post-graduation work experience - known as Optional Practical Training (OPT) - at these companies.
Shoreline is among the top 20 U.S. community colleges out of 1,462 nationwide for the number of international students it hosts (IIE, 2021). The college is recognized as one of the top three community colleges in the state of Washington (WalletHub, 2021). Shoreline has received a prestigious Paul Simon spotlight award for its leadership in campus internationalization. Students from Shoreline also consistently receive the competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad.

Students can come to the U.S. to study or opt to begin any program online and then come to campus for face-to-face instruction once they are able to do so. In that way, students can get started on their academic plans regardless of their specific situation and do not need to defer their studies.
The entry requirements at the institution now include Duolingo as evidence of English language proficiency and for the issuing of a form I-20. Foundation and pre-sessional English courses are also available online at the university. In addition, the college continues to offer scholarships and emergency grant to eligible students.
University Transfer – Students can study the first two years of a degree program and transfer their credits to complete a bachelor's degree at a top U.S. university. Career Training – Through Professional/Technical programs, students can develop their practical skills and graduate career ready after two years. Certificates – Students can transition into a different professional role or enhance skills for their current role through these shorter certificate options. College Readiness – Students can develop skills for college-level English or math or enroll in an intensive English language (ESL) program. High School Options – Students can use credits from their college courses to earn a U.S. high school diploma. Fully online overseas learning options, including certificates and degrees that can be taken from a student's home country.Areas of study at Shoreline include arts, communication, business, healthcare, medical, science, technology, engineering, math, social sciences and education.
Shoreline also offers an Honor's College program, where students can challenge themselves by engaging in research with professors. Benefits of this program include guaranteed smaller class sizes with more rigorous coursework, research projects, presentation opportunities at prestigious universities, additional support during the university transfer process, and more connections in the academic community. International students who have previously taken an English proficiency test may be able to enroll directly into college-level English or the advanced English language course, English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Students in EAP can also take college classes at the same time.
Students who receive the minimum IELTS scores, or equivalent, will be guaranteed a place in:
5.5 overall, with 6.0 in writing – English 101 5.0 overall, with 5.0 in writing – EAPFor test scores lower than these, students will take the English language placement test during orientation.
Shoreline offers a number of scholarships to new and continuing international students to help them pay tuition fees. The scholarship for new international students is USD500. The awards for international student scholarships are made on the basis of academic excellence and, for new international students, the demonstration of English language proficiency. New international students may choose to be considered for scholarships when applying to Shoreline, without the need for a direct or alternative scholarship application process.
To align with visa regulations, Shoreline requires applicants to demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to be able to live and study in the U.S.
The Safety and Security department works alongside all areas of the college, providing security services 24/7 in order to create a safe environment for the college community. Services include:

Shoreline has numerous Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) partnerships with well-known and high-quality universities. However, students can transfer to any university they qualify for and have transferred to almost 200 universities in all 50 states and even other countries.
