Overview

Murdoch University didn't become a free-thinking university overnight. Since being founded in 1973, it has been committed to providing students with the kind of education which enables them to change their worlds, think for themselves, and find new ways to push past the status quo.

Murdoch is a place where students can be themselves and be appreciated for who they truly are. It is the kind of place where the lecturers know them by name, and other down-to-earth students' wave from across the lawns of Bush Court. Murdoch are honoured to welcome and staff and students who come from all walks of life.

Located in Perth, Western Australia, the heartland campus features more than 227 hectares of beautiful native bushland, specialised education and recreational facilities and a range of essential support services.

From its inception, Murdoch has been a research-led university with a reputation for world class research. By working often with key corporate, academic and government partners, to ensure research is underpinned by a deep understanding of politics, governance, and international affairs. This helps translate outcomes into impact.

Whether you want to change the whole world, some of the world, or just your world, Murdoch's extensive range of courses and hands-on learning facilities will equip you with the skills you need. Taking you beyond the classroom and out into the field where you can think for yourself and see the world in real time. A great education is not just about information in textbooks. It's about feeling, seeing, and experiencing the world with your own hands. This is free thinking in action.

We don't follow the crowd, and neither do our students. Thousands of free-thinking students have graduated from Murdoch and made their mark on the world. When you're thinking for yourself, there's no limit to what you might achieve.

What's New

Murdoch University is constructing a New Academic Building on its Perth campus which will lead to a primary new address and serve as a highly visible demonstration of its commitment to sustainability, one of the University's core founding principles.

The 6-star green star building will be constructed from about 4,300m2 of timber and will become Western Australia's largest mass engineered timber building.

On delivery, the facility will provide an approximate 70 per cent increase in world-class teaching space across the campus and offer an ultramodern teaching and learning experience. It will include digitally enhanced learning spaces and ‘flexi-labs' allowing students to learn in a modern, flexible environment. The new building has been designed to provide the flexibility to adapt for future needs, with internal partitions able to be inserted or moved to suit the changing delivery of education.

Meet a Free Thinker

Emmanuel Nene Dei, Master of Health Administration, Policy and Leadership

''I came to Murdoch University in January 2019 as a recipient of the Australia Award Africa Scholarship. Prior to coming to Australia, I was working in research, planning and data management for the National Blood Service of Ghana.

Murdoch was the only university in Australia that had all my aspirations and interests rolled up in one course. I found the health leadership aspect in particular very attractive and inspiring because I want to be a global citizen leading change in any field I work in, but especially the health sector.

My experience at Murdoch University made me realise my strengths and passion in life. My time at Murdoch has changed me. My critical and analytical thinking skills have been sharpened, and I have learned to approach problems and challenges with a scientific and evidence-based mindset.

Something I've learned at Murdoch, is that every single person has the potential to excel beyond their current abilities if they are willing to learn and they receive the right support. We need to encourage people and give them the opportunity to prove themselves. Also remember that every individual's viewpoint is important, and no one should be sidelined. We might be diverse in our thoughts, but it is in this diversity that we will find our strength.

Students won't regret coming to Murdoch. It's the right environment to propel them into the future they deserve.''
