Model UN club with a global influence

Students can be part of the university's Model UN club, which is gaining global recognition. The club provides opportunities to:

　　Explore world issues Practice debating Travel the world Represent a UN country in a similar environment to a UN conference.MacEwan's Model UN group shares its best practices with other students across the globe. It has recently collaborated with institutions in Germany and Ukraine. MacEwan students have supported these universities through peer-to-peer training and virtual mentoring. Students have the ability to be active within a global environment, learn intellectual responsibilities and gain skills such as leadership, and public speaking.

University faculty provide a quality learning experience at MacEwan and strive to put students at the core of all they do.

　　As well as teaching, staff are involved in pioneering research that's respected all over the world. Classes are informed by this research. There are many chances for students to take part in research opportunities and ground-breaking projects.

　　Students often comment that MacEwan faculty are accessible. Teachers work hard to build good relationships with their classes. Most classrooms have between ten and 50 students, where teaching staff get to know each of their students personally.

Department structure

MacEwan University offers a variety of degree, diploma and certificate programs. From health studies to the visual arts, there are many different choices. Programs lead to professional careers or further study opportunities. Programs are taught across the following faculties and schools:

　　MacEwan also offers professional and personal development courses, university preparation programs and English language courses. Several programs can be studied part-time. There are different start dates throughout the year.

　　

Entry requirements

International applicants require a good level of English language proficiency to study at MacEwan.

　　For bachelor's degrees, diplomas and certificates, students need one of the following minimum scores:

　　IELTS – overall 6.5 with no band below 5.5 TOEFL iBT – overall 86, with 21 in listening, reading, speaking and writing. TOEFL PBT – overall 580, with no band below 50 An accepted equivalent.For the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, students need one of the following minimum scores:

　　IELTS – overall 6.5, with 7.0 in speaking, 6.0 in listening and 5.5 in reading and writing TOEFL iBT – overall 86, with 26 in speaking, 23 in listening and 21 in reading and writing An accepted equivalent.For the Psychiatric Nursing program, students need one of the following minimum scores:

　　IELTS – overall 7.0, with 7.5 in listening, 7.0 in writing and speaking and 6.5 in reading TOEFL iBT – overall 98, with 27 in writing and listening, 23 in speaking and 21 in reading. An accepted equivalent.

Preparatory programs

International students who don't quite meet the entry criteria can take a preparatory program. This helps them develop their English language skills and improve courses required for academic study. Programs include English as an additional language (EAL), foundation program international and University Preparation.

As well as expert teaching and academic guidance, MacEwan has many support services in place for students.

　　

SAMU

The Students Association of MacEwan University is the student voice on campus. SAMU offers a range of services, student advocacy, health and dental plans, as well as a universal transit pass to help students commute around Edmonton with ease.

　　

Writing centre

Those who need help with their academic skills can gain feedback on their writing. They can book appointments with a tutor and find many study resources online.

　　

Wellness and psychological services

Students struggling with any academic or personal issue can access confidential counselling. Free and professional consultations can be in person, on the phone or via video call.

　　

International student support

There's plenty of dedicated support for international students. This includes an orientation event for new international students. Orientation involves seminars on cultural integration, immigration, academic integrity, tax returns and the local area.

Scholarships & funding

Tuition and fees vary depending on the chosen program. Bachelor's degrees range from CAD 23,000 to CAD 30,500 per academic year. Preparatory programs range from CAD 13,500 to CAD 15,000. This does not include accommodation or the cost of living.

　　International students have access to generous scholarship opportunities. Those applying for a degree or diploma program may be eligible. Students are automatically considered for scholarship at the time of acceptance. There is no application necessary.

　　Awards are based on academic achievement. Students in degree programs may qualify for returning student awards in subsequent years.

　　

International degree scholarships

With an admission average score of a minimum of 80 percent (based on the Alberta High School equivalent) and above, students may receive a scholarship of CAD 4,000 to CAD 14,000.

　　

International diploma scholarships

With an admission average score of a minimum of 80 percent, students may receive a scholarship of CAD 4,000 to CAD 12,000 in the first year of their program.

　　

Other scholarships, awards, and bursaries

Students are also eligible to other scholarships, awards, and bursaries during their studies in Canada or at MacEwan. They can check what is available and the eligibility requirements on the university's website.

　　The Canadian government has scholarships in place for internationals looking to study in Canada. Students should go to the Canadian Embassy or Consulate website in their country to find out more about these opportunities.
