Federation University Australia is Victoria's premier regional university, deeply connected with its communities and with a strong heritage of providing high-quality education for over 150 years.

  There are more than 150 programmes available spanning many areas, with a particular emphasis on industry-driven learning. The university offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, along with specialised pathway programmes for meeting English language proficiency requirements and continued professional development short courses.

  Federation University is ranked within the top 250 Young Universities in the world (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2022) and first for employment outcomes for six years running (Good Universities Guide 2022 & 2021, ESS 2018, QILT 2016, 2017 & 2018). The university has the smallest class sizes in the region, resulting in more contact time with the university's expert teaching staff who are superb communicators with a wealth of overseas experience.

  If a student doesn't meet the academic and/or English language requirements, a pathway is the perfect way to ensure they can gain entry into their first- or second-year undergraduate studies at Federation University.

  

Higher education diplomas

Higher education diplomas at Federation allow students to select their specialism from the first day of their studies, allowing them to better prepare for their bachelor's degree. The university offers majors across business, engineering and information technology.

  Students who complete their higher education diploma will enjoy guaranteed entry into the first of second year of an undergraduate programme. Students on a diploma course will study the same topics as first year undergraduate students, so can be assured that their education is equal to that of a bachelor's. Students will obtain a standalone higher education qualification at the end of their diploma programme.

Accomodation

FedLiving, Federation University's accommodation service, offers a wide range of accommodation options across campuses at Ballarat, Berwick and Gippsland, with suitable options for students at different levels of study. University research indicates that students who live in residences are more likely to succeed in their studies.

  Choosing to live on campus at one of Federation University's residences is a decision students will not regret. Travel time is reduced, there is a diverse group of people to meet and make friends with, and a range of great activities and support awaits to help students settle in. Newly enrolled international students are also eligible to apply for a scholarship which can go some way in covering their rental costs.

Study options

Federation University offers a variety of courses across six schools, at all levels of study from certificate and diploma through to undergraduate, postgraduate and even PhD.

  The School of Arts, operating from the Mt Helen, SMB and Gippsland campuses offers qualifications in the liberal arts, comprising the humanities and social sciences, community services, rural welfare, and the visual and performing arts.

  The School of Education at the Mt Helen, Gippsland, Berwick and Horsham campuses, offers courses in collaboration with community education providers and schools across the state of Victoria.

  The School of Science, Psychology and Sport has dedicated staff who deliver innovative teaching programs that help graduates acquire the skills and knowledge to build a career, using state-of-the-art facilities.

  The School of Health collaborates with the health sector to ensure industry-relevant programs that meet the students' needs. Many programs include clinical placements and learning opportunities that will benefit students in real situations.

  The School of Engineering, Information Technology and Physical Sciences offers programs that are internationally recognised for producing industry-ready graduates equipped with up-to-date skills.

  The Federation Business School teaches its students vital skills such as critical thinking, leadership and adaptability. The school delivers business programs that meets the requirement of industry, in partnership with organisations such as IBM®, which plays a big part in setting graduates up for success.

  Federation University also has a TAFE, which trains students in skills critical to industry, a Global Professional School, which supports transnational partnerships and enables pathway programs for, and a Graduate Research School, which allows students to explore a topic in depth, contribute new knowledge and become an expert in their field, with a PhD.

  

Graduate outcomes

Federation University supports students seeking part-time and full-time employment through the Employability Coaching Program. The Careers and Employability team helps students prepare for employment opportunities at the regional, national and global levels.

  Along with helping students find employment in the current competitive job market, the Employability Coaching Program also helps deserving students find internships or graduate positions. The Careers and Employability team strives to prepare students for employment through resources, activities and a personal Employability Coach.

Facilities

Federation University provides a whole host of facilities to students to enrich their living and learning experience.

  Whether it's art galleries where exhibitions by students and other artists are held, spiritual centres for prayer, professional medical service facilities with doctors on call, or well-stocked bookstores with discounted prices, Federation University caters to a wide variety of student needs.

  Federation University has a single integrated library service across campuses. The collection includes audio-visual materials, books, journals, and other resources for students including workspaces. The libraries also offer access to online databases and electronic full text documents and provide training in internet and research skills.

  UniSports, at the Mt Helen Campus, is the hub of recreational and health services for staff, students and the local community. The fully equipped gymnasium and eight lane indoor swimming pool are popular attractions amongst students. Special memberships are provided to students by UniSports and the Student Association. Additional facilities at UniSports include a multipurpose gym, rehabilitation centre, gymnastics hall, dance studio, tennis courts, squash courts and an oval and athletics track.

Federation University has a range of scholarships on offer for international students. These include the following:

  

Federation Pathways Scholarship

This award is equivalent to 20 percent of the annual tuition fees of a pathway course. It's available to prospective international students commencing a Foundation or Higher Education Diploma course in 2024.

  

Federation Excellence Scholarship

This award is equivalent to 20 percent of the annual tuition fees for the duration of the enrolled course. It's available to prospective international students commencing a Foundation or Higher Education Diploma course in 2024.

  

International Student Accommodation Support Scholarship

This award is worth AUD 1,000 per semester for two semesters (total annual value of AUD 2,000). It's available to prospective international students commencing a Federation course in 2024. Students will be automatically assessed for this scholarship at the time they receive an offer to study.

Federation University Australia Global Innovator Scholarship

This is offered to international students applying for undergraduate and postgraduate on-campus degree programs at Federation University. The scholarship is equal to 20 percent of the student's annual tuition fees in the form of a fee discount.

  

Federation University Australia Global Excellence Scholarship

This can be awarded to high-achieving international students applying for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree on-campus programs with a distinction average. It is the equivalent of 25 percent of the annual tuition fees and is available in the form of a fee discount.
