About the course
Studying for your PhD in the School of Music means that you will become an expert in a specialist area and gain high-quality research skills, which will equip you to undertake further research projects in addition to pursuing specialist career paths. As a postgraduate researcher, you will conduct original research work under the guidance of your supervisors. You’ll have regular meetings to monitor your progress and develop an initial training plan to make sure you are acquiring the appropriate skills for your research. If you want to pursue your chosen area of research through practice, we offer supervison for Music practice-led PhD and practice-led MPhil.
Our research explores a rich variety of musicology from the seventeenth century to the present day. We pursue a diverse range of methodological approaches, from the critical to the applied, and explore the role of music within historical, theoretical, literary, aesthetic, technological, popular and interdisciplinary contexts. Our collaborative research is international in scope and engages museums, galleries and other cultural organisation and institutions. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships
