About the course

Our Microbiology and Infection MSc provides you with sound theoretical and hands-on laboratory experience in cutting-edge microbiology. The course is set within the context of the Institute of Microbiology and Infection at the University of Birmingham, the largest grouping of microbiologists in the UK.

　　This MSc programme is built on the combined expertise in microbiology and infection that has been assembled through the establishment of the Institute of Microbiology and Infection at Birmingham.

How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Birmingham

Good UK Honours degree or overseas equivalent

　　Minimum lower second class Honours degree in a Biosciences subject including at least 20 credits or equivalent in each of general microbiology and biochemistry and at least 20 credits or equivalent of advanced microbiology in the final year of the degree programme. English to IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band), TOEFL - 80 overall with no less than 19 in Reading, 19 in Listening, 21 in Speaking and 19 in Writing , University of Birmingham graduates do not need to provide transcripts or copies of degree certificates, however we advise applicants who graduated prior to 2000 to provide copies of their qualifications as they may take longer to verify. Personal statement, approximately 5000 characters, explaining why you are interested in studying on your chosen programme. This can be uploaded to the personal statement section in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Alternatively, you can type this within the application portal. On your application, you will be asked to supply contact details of two academic referees (or one academic reference if applicable to the course/programme appled for). Employment references may be acceptable for certain courses which require them.
