About the course
Advanced mathematics underlies many aspects of everyday life. Both the breadth of current research and its power in applications are reflected in this programme. The Mathematics MSc is a flexible course which opens doors to further research or top careers requiring mathematical ability. The School of Mathematical Sciences offers a diverse range of research expertise across our 80 academics, making us one of the largest Maths departments in the UK. You will start with a compulsory module in Research Methods in Mathematical Sciences as the basis for your programme. You will then be able to select elective modules that fit with your particular interests. The modules offered reflect the research strengths of the School, and are concentrated in pure mathematics (especially algebra and combinatorics), probability and statistics, dynamical systems, and networks. You can study mostly pure mathematics, pure and applied mathematics, or mathematics with statistics.
Students who have graduated from this programme have gone into a variety of roles including Software Engineer, Audit Associate, Data Analyst - Crime and Compliance, Data Scientist, Associate Data Consultant, Senior Investor Relations Analyst, PhD Student, Research Assistant, Anti-Money Laundering Analyst and more. Recent employers include Transport for London, KPMG, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, UK Health Security Agency, UK Trade Remedies Authority, Office for National Statistics and Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance.
