About the course

Pharmacists are responsible for the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients and for giving advice on how to take prescribed drugs, including monitoring requirements or potential side effects. Pharmacists also supervise the medicines supply chain through the provision of dispensing services in the community, hospital and other primary care settings.

  They have an important role to play as part of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, liaising ly with other healthcare professionals to ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law and suitable for a particular patient. They also work ly with patients and carers to offer help and advice.

  With over 100 years of experience, our Leicester School of Pharmacy will help provide you with the practical and professional skills needed to work as a pharmacist. With pharmacy being the third largest healthcare profession in the UK, your career opportunities are extensive and varied.

  You’ll study a range of topics that will help you develop your skills to advise patients, and which cover professional practice, clinical expertise, and core diagnostic and consultation skills.

How to apply

Entry requirements for De Montfort University

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English Language Plus one of the following:

  A levels - A minimum of 128 points from 3 A Levels including Chemistry and at least one of the following at grade B or above: Biology, Maths, Physics or Psychology (General Studies is not accepted).

  BTEC National Diploma - Science Distinction/Distinction/Merit, with Chemistry A level at grade B.

  International Baccalaureate - 30+ points with six higher level points in Chemistry and another science subject (Biology, Physics, Psychology or Maths).

  If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.5, with no element at lower than 6.0, or equivalent when you start the course is essential.
