About the course

The master of science program in human genetics prepares students for careers as contributing members of genetics and genomics research teams in academia or industry. Graduates of the program often go on to PhD level study and become independent scientists. The flexible curriculum provides a broad background in the field while allowing customized emphasis on laboratory genetics or genetic data analysis. In addition to core coursework and advanced classes in a chosen area of concentration, MS students pursue mentored research projects culminating in the production and defense of a thesis. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Pittsburgh

U.S. bachelor’s or graduate degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline

　　Introductory courses in genetics and calculus (required), as well as biochemistry and behavioral/social sciences (recommended)

　　Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores above the 70th percentile in verbal and quantitative

　　Either of the following: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 80 on the internet-based test or 550 on the written test, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least Band 6.5 and having taken the academic writing and reading modules
