About the course

The Master of Tourism (MTour) is a degree that can be completed in a 12 month period, starting either in February (semester 1) or July (semester 2). It is an interdisciplinary programme that mixes cutting edge taught courses with independent research. The programme deals with core, contemporary, and emerging issues and is taught by some of the leading tourism, leisure, and hospitality researchers in the world.

　　The programme is designed to act as a means of enhancing the knowledge and skills of students seeking or wishing to enhance a career in the tourism industry or related areas and as a foundation for students seeking entry to a PhD programme.

　　Graduates of the MTour will have a detailed and high level critical understanding of tourism, and related areas, as both an industry and social phenomenon. They will also have a detailed and advanced grounding in pertinent research and presentation skills that enable them to actively participate in the tourism industry, associated governmental and non-governmental institutions, and/or academia to become the leaders of tomorrow. Entry requirements for The University of Otago

You are required to provide scanned copies of your previous official academic transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades) with your application. A four-year honours degree or postgraduate diploma, and a two-year programme for candidates with a standard bachelor’s degree., IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.5 in the academic module (with no individual band below 6.0)., Paper-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 587 with TWE (Test of Written English) 4.5. Internet-based TOEFL score of 95 with a minimum writing score of 22. The Otago International School requires incoming international students to have studied at least one year at an accredited tertiary institution and a hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 minimum (USA/Canada), or have “credit”, “good”, or above average results.
