About the course

To nurture middle school and high school students? knowledge and appreciation of the natural sciences, a teacher needs more than a foundation in chemistry.

  This program develops teacher candidates? knowledge and understanding of adolescent learning and development, educational theory, and best practices in science education.

  This program prepares graduates to be classroom Chemistry teachers for grades 7-12. There is also an option to add an extension for grades 5-6.

  Applicants to the program must have a degree in chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 30 credits in chemistry coursework. Applicants must have taken courses in the following areas: principles of chemistry, including concepts in inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry.

How to apply

Entry requirements for Fordham University

All applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and have obtained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B). If you have received a post bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, a minimum GPA of 3.5 is required.

  IELTS: 7 for General Test Score, No subtest can be lower than 6.

  TOEFL: 577 for paper test, 90 for Internet-based (IBT) test.

  Applicants must complete or have completed 18 credits or more in a chemistry major or concentration including coursework in these areas: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytic chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry.
