About the course

Physics and Materials Science is a broad and complex field that uses mathematical models to explain the nature and behavior of all manner of physical systems from the smallest particles inside the nucleus to the entire universe in which we live. The department also has a graduate program at the master and doctoral levels. The master's degree program has concentrations in General Physics, Computational Physics, and Materials Science. Our Engineering Physics PhD concentration is offered through the Herff College of Engineering PhD program. Sufficient additional courses to satisfy a minimum of 33 semester hours, in which 9 may be in a collateral field of study. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Memphis

To be admitted to the MS program in physics, the applicant must have a Bachelor of Science (BS) in physics or a ly related discipline with coursework satisfying undergraduate core physics requirements (calculus, differential equations, modern physics, mechanics, electricity and Magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics). Students from non-English speaking countries are required to demonstrate proficiency in English via the TOEFL or the IELTS test scores.

  A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 in undergraduate physics courses is required.

  GRE General, minimum 140 in Verbal and 150 in Quantitative.

  Minimum TOEFL score of 80 or IELTS score of 8.

  A minimum of three letters of recommendation

  Previous research experience, if any

  Personal Statement

  Copies of all undergraduate (and graduate, if any) transcripts
