About the course

The Actuarial Science Program at Illinois State combines high quality education in all areas of actuarial theory with serious commitment to actuarial practice and professionalism. We offer two ways to complete the M.S. in Actuarial Science, traditional (on-campus) or online. The actuarial science program is designed to support you as you prepare to pass the professional exams set by the two major societies for Actuaries in the U.S. or to take similar exams from similar societies elsewhere. The traditional sequence is offered on-campus located in Normal, IL and courses are conducted during the day. How to apply

Entry requirements for Illinois State University

In order to be admitted to Illinois State, a student must have earned a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college or university that is accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association. In addition to the overall Graduate School requirements above, a student applying to a master's program must also have a minimum 2.8 GPA (on a scale in which an A is a 4.0) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work (approximately the junior and senior years). A student applying to this program must: have a minimal mathematics background of three semesters of Calculus, one semester of Linear Algebra, and four quantitative courses above the Calculus/Linear Algebra level (for example, advanced mathematics, finance, statistics, econometrics, etc). If it is not clear from your transcripts that you have this background, please explain in your statement of purpose.

  Present a TOEFL score of no less that 79 on the internet-based test (iBT) or 550 on the paper-based test, or present an overall band score of no less than 6.5 on the IELTS exam. Some departments require higher English proficiency exam scores.
