About the course
The interdisciplinary graduate program in Materials Science exists to educate students, with at least a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science, in the diverse field of Materials Science. This diversity includes the four key foundational aspects of Materials Science ? materials properties including characterization and modeling, materials structures, materials synthesis and processing and materials performance ? as applied to materials of a variety of types (i.e., metals, ceramics, polymers, electronic materials and biomaterials). The Materials Science graduate program is responsible for administering MS (thesis and non-thesis) and PhD Degrees in Materials Science. This interdisciplinary degree program coexists along side strong disciplinary programs in Chemistry, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mining, and Physics. The student?s graduate committee will have final approval of the course of study.

Entry requirements for Colorado School of Mines
• One (1) official transcript from all current and previous institutions (unofficial transcripts may be used for the review process). You may upload* copies of transcripts through the online system. *Uploaded transcripts must contain both your name and the name of the institution to be valid
• Transcripts are marked ‘unofficial‘ if your program is not complete and still ‘in progress’
• Transcripts are marked ‘unofficial‘ if they are not in a sealed envelope from the University
• International transcripts are marked ‘unofficial‘ if there is not a certified and stamped literal English translation, as well as an official copy in the indigenous language.
• International transcripts are marked ‘unofficial’ if there is not a certified literal English translation of your diploma or certification of completion as well as a certified copy in the indigenous language.
• If applicable – One (1) official copy of the individual marksheets from all current and previous institutions. Consolidated marksheets will not be accepted as official. (unofficial individual marksheets may be used for the review process). You may upload* copies of the individual marksheet(s) through the online system
• Three (3) letters of recommendation
All graduate degree programs at Mines require completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
Mines requires a minimum score of 79 internet-based test (iBT). Tests must have been taken within the past two years to be accepted. An IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Score of 6.5, with no band below a 6.0. Toefl 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test) is required.
