About the course

The Master of Science in Genome Bioinformatics (MSGB) program prepares students for careers analyzing the human genome both in academia and in pharmaceutical and genomic testing industries. Graduates of the program will meet the growing need for computational analysts with expertise in manipulating, annotating, and interpreting human genome data. In addition to coursework and hands-on training, students will participate in a structured internship experience in industry or other non-academic setting to provide real world exposure to genome bioinformatics and hone analytic and communication skills in preparation for entering the job market. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Pittsburgh

Applications for admission to the Department of Human Genetics are processed through the Office of Student Affairs at Pitt Public Health. You must apply for the MS human genetics, MPH, and PhD programs through SOPHAS, the centralized application service for graduate schools of public health. Applications for the MS in Genetic Counseling Program and MS in Genetic Counseling/MPH in Public Health Genetics dual degree program must be submitted through SOPHAS Express. Please note, SOPHAS submits applications to Pitt Public Health only after all required materials are received. Applicants who have submitted applications may track their status online.

  Submit official transcripts for ALL education in the United States directly to SOPHAS.

  The minimum grade point average for admission to any graduate study at the University of Pittsburgh is 3.0

  In addition to the application materials required of all students, international students must submit an official score report from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam and a WES evaluation. A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet test is required for all foreign students. The minimum acceptable score on the IELTS is Band 6.5, and applicants must take the academic writing and reading modules of the test. The minimum acceptable Duolingo English Test score is 105.
