About the course
The New School is at the forefront of advancing climate policy and environmental justice through our master's degree in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management. Around the world, efforts are being made promote change by applying the insights of communities, societies, and grassroots organizations with relationships to the land and its ecologies. Our graduate students draw on these grassroots perspectives, forms of Indigenous knowledge, and community engagement to critically address social and ecological challenges affecting local and global populations.
The Master of Science degree in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management is awarded for successful completion of 42 credits. The curriculum offers a sound foundation in the public policy and management disciplines with concentrations in these two areas. Students can further deepen their skills in specific subject areas. All students take a culminating capstone seminar in which they develop a research- or practice-based project with the potential for real-world application. Entry requirements for The New School
Unofficial Transcripts: Applicants must upload an unofficial transcript, mark sheet, or academic record for each institution (even if you didn’t receive a degree) in the Educational Background section of the online application. Official Transcripts: Applicants offered admission will be required to submit official transcripts (as well as official certified translations and evaluations of the transcripts/mark sheets and degree certifications if the degree was earned outside of the United States) to The New School. Admitted applicants must submit all official transcripts pertaining to their entire academic career. Two academic/professional recommendation letters are required for all degree applicants. Resume, Please submit a 750 to 1,000-word statement of purpose explaining your reasons for pursuing a graduate degree, your academic, research, and/or professional goals, and why you consider the program to be a match for you. Applicants may submit an 8-12 page academic writing sample, in English. Published or unpublished academic research papers or a coherent excerpt from a longer paper are acceptable. The minimum score required for TOEFL (IB) is 92, for IELTS is 7.0, All applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by the time of enrollment.
