About the course

The Master of Science (M.S.) degree program in electrical engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is designed to provide graduates with advanced knowledge and skills in areas such as micro-/nano-electronic and photonic devices and systems, circuits and system-on-chip, power systems and sustainable energy, signal/image processing and communication, intelligent control and robotics, electric vehicle and e-mobility. M.S. degree in electrical engineering enables further advance in engineering profession in variety of industries. Curriculum of the M.S. studies is dynamically adjusted based on recommendations of the ECE Industrial Advisory Board whose membership includes representatives from Ford, General Motors, Mercedes Benz, US Army TARDEC, Semiconductor Research Corporation, L3-Communications, AMFnano, Apple, DTE. How to apply

Entry requirements for Wayne State University

In accordance with Wayne State graduate admissions, the ECE department requires a minimum 2.75 GPA in upper level undergraduate coursework. A GPA of 3.0 or above is recommended. International students, please note the approximate guidelines for GPA conversion.

  A GPA of 3.0 (four-year) or better or B average is equivalent to 65 percent for students from India or Pakistan, 80 percent for students from China.

  A GPA of 2.8 to 3.0 is equivalent to 59 to 64 percent for students from India or Pakistan and 75 to 79 percent for students from China.

  Wayne State undergraduates with >3.0 undergraduate GPA receive automatic admission into the MS program.

  Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test results are optional, but recommended for students who completed their undergraduate degrees at non-ABET accredited schools.

  A statement of purpose is optional, but is encouraged for all students, particularly those who have extenuating or unusual circumstances that may impact their application.

  The ECE MS program is open to students with bachelor's degrees in fields other than electrical and computer engineering. To ensure adequate preparation for the MS program, the ECE department requires that the student has completed prerequisite courses in circuits, linear systems, and programming. Other courses in digital electronics, microcomputers, semiconductors, electromagnetics, and control theory may also be suggested depending on the student's area of focus in the MS degree.
