About the course

The Master of Science degree is a research-intensive program, usually consisting of 18 units of course weight in graduate courses, a thesis proposal course, and a thesis. Twelve of the 18 units of course weight must be from ECE courses, while the remaining six units should be taken outside of the department. A minimum period of residence for the MSc program is full-time attendance during two consecutive four-month terms. A period of two years is typically required to complete the degree. Communications research in electrical and computer engineering is cutting-edge in the fields of information and communication theory, wireless communications, and communication networks. Our researchers investigate the reliable and efficient transmission of information in many forms, such as text, image, voice, audio, and video.

　　At the University of Alberta, we work to develop the mathematical models of the network, signaling methods, channels, and other systems used to design communication protocols to maximize information transfer rates, minimize costs due to bandwidth and power consumption, and maximize the reliability and security of networks. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Alberta

All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from the University of Alberta (or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the U of A) with an average GPA of 3.0 (or its equivalent) in the last two years of study. A minimum admission grade point average of 3.0 on most 4-point grading systems, or a B on most letter grading systems.Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Total score of 92 with 20 on each section (internet-based).
