About the course
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers the Master of Science degree in Computer Science after completion of the following degree requirements. For information about the MS in Computer Engineering program, 48 quarter units of graduate or upper-division undergraduate courses are required. Students who have completed similar courses elsewhere may petition for a waiver of a required course or for substitution of an alternative course. For students interested in interdisciplinary research, individual study programs can be approved. MS students must satisfactorily complete one of the following courses: one quarter of CS 287, GDIV 301, GDIV 403, or at least one unit of CS 298I. Other professional development courses may be used to satisfy this requirement if approved by the graduate advisor.

Entry requirements for University of California
In general, a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the last two years of upper division undergraduate work is desirable and applicants with a master’s degree are expected to have a GPA of 3.5 or above, International applicants must submit one copy of official transcripts and Certificates of Degree/Diploma in their original language, with English translations prepared by the issuing institution. Notarized documents or copies are not accepted. Official transcripts and Certificates of Degree/Diplomas with English translations must be sent directly to the Computer Science and Engineering Department from the issuing institution, or you can mail the transcripts yourself provided they are sealed within the original envelope of the issuing institution. Only the GRE General test is required for admission to both the M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
The minimum acceptable scores are: 550 for the revised TOEFL paper-delivered test and 80 for the TOEFL iBT. Ielts - The minimum acceptable overall score is 7 with no score less than 6 on any individual component, Toefl computer based 213. A minimum of three letters of recommendation are required for admission. At least two of these letters must be from professors in your major subject. If you have obtained a M.S. degree, one letter must be from your M.S. advisor. Recommender information are entered directly in the electronic application. All letters of recommendation must be received electronically so they are attached to the applicants file for review. International applicants can submit the complete the International Applicant Confidential Financial Statement for evaluation purpose. An electronic copy of the complete form is sufficient to evaluate your application. However, if an admission offer is made the bank letter and the International Applicant Confidential Financial Statement with original signature need to be mailed to the department. A minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA or B-equivalent (if GPA is not on a 4.0 scale). A bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited institution. The degree must represent the completion of a program equivalent in subject matter and scholarship to that offered by the University of California.
