About the course

Water is a critical factor in global public health and economic development. At least 30% of the world’s population lacks access to safely managed drinking water systems, and 55% lack access to safely managed sanitation systems. In many cases, people without access live in rural areas of developing countries, but others live in large and rapidly growing cities with poor infrastructure. Additionally, an unknown number of people live in circumstances that make them vulnerable to water-related disasters. As population increases, the climate changes, and economic and political conditions fluctuate, maintaining and improving access to safe water supplies and sanitation systems is expected to become increasingly difficult. GRE General Test for M.S. and Ph.D. applicants

Those seeking advanced degrees may be recommended for admission to the Graduate School by the department to which the application is submitted if faculty and facilities are available and if all the applicant’s undergraduate grades average 3.0 or higher (A = 4.0). International applicants must rank among the top students in their classes. For strongest admission consideration, applicants should have a 3.25 GPA or higher on a scale of A = 4.0.

In general, students applying to the Ph.D. program should have a prior master degree. Students without a master degree but have significant reserch experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In very rare cases the Department is willing to consider an applicant with a GPA below 3.0. In such cases we look very strongly at 5+ years of work experience in Civil Engineering, strong GRE’s and if the PE exam has been taken and passed.

Minimum TOEFL score for admission without condition is 550 (paper based), or 80 (internet based). Minimum IELTS score for admission without condition is 6.5.
