About the course
The Master of Science programs in Biostatistics train students in the basics of statistical theory, biostatistical and bioinformatics methods in planning studies, conducting analyses, and writing reports, the interpretation of numeric data for scientific inference in studies in medicine and public health, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with scientists in related disciplines. Application areas include observational studies, clinical trials, computational biology and quantitative genomics, statistical genetics, and medical and public health research, among other areas. Designed for students with a mathematical and statistical background sufficient to achieve a level of proficiency after one year of study comparable to that obtained in the 80-credit program. Students who have a Master?s degree in one of the mathematical sciences or a doctorate in a quantitative field may be qualified for a one-year SM program. How to apply
Entry requirements for Harvard University
All applications must be submitted through SOPHAS- the common application for schools and programs of public health. In addition to the application, applicants must submit to SOPHAS a statement of purpose and objectives, official test scores, three letters of reference, resumé/curriculum vitae, and all post-secondary transcripts or marks sheets (see sophas.org for the mailing address).
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all applicants for whom English is not their first language and have not received any degrees from a university where English is the language of instruction. The Harvard Chan School requires a minimum of 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, and 100 on the Internet-based 4-part test (we prefer individual section scores of 23 or better). Official scores from TOEFL may be reported to the School at code number 3456. If you have already started your SOPHAS application, please report your scores to code 5688.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) will also be accepted with a score of 7.0 or greater.
Applicants are required to enter all coursework from US institutions and English language institutions in Canada attended in the Coursework section of the SOPHAS application and submit official transcripts and degree conferrals for all institutions attended.
