About the course
Developing new and improved numerical models is critical for advancing the state of the science, improving weather prediction, and better understanding future climate, all of which are currently being explored at the University of Wyoming (McCoy). The model development research in the department of Atmospheric Science can largely be broken into cloud-scale microphysics and dynamics as well as long-term climate. Current efforts are underway to improve the representation of snow formation in regional-scale numerical models, e.g., the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, which is essential for the prediction of snowfall in winter storms. We are also looking at new ways to represent the complex growth and melting of hailstones to better inform severe weather forecasters and are continuing to improve current numerical models with novel numerical approaches. On the climate scale, the research efforts are focused on improving aerosol and ice nucleation schemes in the Community Earth System Model 2 (CESM2). Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships

How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Wyoming
1. Transcripts. Please submit undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Transcripts not in English must be translated by the issuing university or by a commercial translation service.
2. Grade-point average. Applicants with higher GPAs will have a competitive advantage. A GPA of less than 3.0 in undergraduate science and mathematics is generally indicative of lack of sufficient preparation for graduate studies in science.
3. GRE scores. To be competitive for admission, a M.S. applicant should have a minimum of 151 (Q) and 138 (V), Ph.D. applicants should have minimum of 155 (Q) and 140 (V). If you are chosen for admission, please have the Educational Testing Service (ETS) mail your scores to the University of Wyoming, Code 4855. GRE scores less than these values do not disqualify your application, but your application may not be competitive enough for admission. The GRE requirement may be waived if you have a master's degree from a U.S. institution. However, the selection committee may request recent GRE scores from any applicant.
4. English language profiency scores. Required for international applicants. English proficiency is given serious consideration. The minimum requirement is a composite score of 76 on the Internet-based exam (TOEFL iBT), or a 6.0 on the IELTS, or 760 on the TOEIC.
5. Three letters of recommendation.
