About the course

The department offers an accredited professional Master of Architecture (MArch), a post-professional Master of Advanced Architectural Design (MAAD), Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.Architects provide services in connection with the entire life cycle of the building process — from conceptualization, through design and representation, craft and construction, and the performance of both constructed and virtual environments.As part of the College of Environmental Design, Berkeley's Department of Architecture was founded on strong principles of multidisciplinary collaboration and respect for experimentation. Its undergraduate programs cover fields of design and design theory, history of architecture and urbanism, building science and sustainability, structures and construction, social and cultural processes, environmental design in developing countries, digital design and virtual environments, urban design, and visual studies.

　　The Master of Architecture program is designed to provide students seeking their first accredited professional degree with a comprehensive and challenging education leading to the practice of architecture. Graduate students have the flexibility to choose a variety of paths within a two-to-three-year rigorous program, depending upon previous education and experience. The department makes no restriction as to the field of undergraduate preparation. However, the length of the required residence period, the number of required semester course units, and the specific list of required courses may vary depending upon undergraduate major, professional and other work experience, and previous graduate study, if any. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of California - Berkeley

A bachelor?s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution,

　　A satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale, and IELTS: 7 out of 9.

　　Enough undergraduate training to do graduate work in your chosen field.

　　For PhD and MS programs, the GRE is optional For purposes of admission, your most recent TOEFL score must be at least 90 for the Internet-based test (IBT), and 570 for the paper-based format (PBT)

　　The publication, report, or writing sample should support the applicant?s Statement of Purpose and clearly demonstrate research and writing abilities and/or analytical skills.

　　Publication, report, or writing sample must be saved as a single file in PDF format, 50 pages maximum (no minimum page requirement), and submitted via the UC Berkeley Graduate Division online application. File size must be no larger than 10MB.
