About the course

The Educational Studies and Leadership Department of the State University of New York at New Paltz offers a Masters degree in Professional Studies (MPS) in Humanistic/Multicultural Education. The program provides knowledge and skills for promoting social justice, restorative practices/justice, and equity in peoples? lives, work, and social institutions. The 30-credit General Program is designed for human service, not-for-profit, and higher education professionals and K-12 educators wanting a focus on multicultural and social justice education. Those with elementary and secondary initial certification seeking professional certification can obtain it upon completing this program. The 36-credit Teacher Certification Sequence of the program provides special subject teachers (family/consumer science, health, music, physical education, or technology) who are provisionally certified with professional certification.

How to apply

Entry requirements for SUNY New Paltz

The basic requirement for admission to the Graduate School is a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.

　　One official copy of all undergraduate and graduate course work, the baccalaureate transcript should be from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The degree should contain appropriate courses in the special subject area of certification.

　　Initial or provisional New York State teacher certification IF using this degree to apply for professional teaching certification in Family/Consumer Science, Health, Music, Physical Education or Technology.

　　Three letters of recommendation from individuals who have a professional relationship with the prospective student and can address the student?s potential for graduate work.

　　A two-page letter describing how you expect the MPS Humanistic/Multicultural Program will help you meet your personal and professional goals. This can be integrated into the statement on the application form.

　　An interview with a member of the faculty.
