About the course

Emphasizing the training of professional practitioners or professional teachers of the theatre practice, the Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts is a terminal professional degree that provides intensive concentration in arts administration, design, performance and pedagogy, or playwriting. A minimum of 60 hours is required beyond the baccalaureate. Completion of the MFA degree requires a written thesis or a thesis project. The MFA program is a professional training program that provides rigorous instruction and practical opportunities, on an in-depth level, in one area of specialization. How to apply

Entry requirements for Texas Tech University

The successful applicant to a master's program typically has a GPA of at least 3.0 in undergraduate work. It is expected that a student entering a graduate program has successfully completed certain courses prior to their graduate work. The successful graduate student may be asked to level in courses they have not taken.

　　An interview may be scheduled after application and prior to admission.

　　Applicants will not be evaluated until all of the requirements below have been submitted in the application. The Graduate School will notify applicants when their applications are complete, have been referred to the School of Theatre and Dance for consideration, and when an admissions decision has been made.

　　3 letters of recommendation, preferable from sources in the area of theatre

　　A writing sample (a minimum of 750 words), preferable about an aspect of theatre. PHD applicants: submit 10-30 pages of your best research or academic writing.

　　Statement of purpose for graduate studies.

　　Applicants to M.F.A. programs must submit samples of artistic work in their area of interest. Only materials with return postage will be returned.

　　79 (internet-based version). The TOEFL score must be received directly from the Educational Testing Service , International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) – The minimum IELTS required score is an overall band score of 6.5 on the Academic version. TOEFL score of at least 213 (computer) or 550 (written) for students for whom English is a foreign language.
