About the course
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Waterloo is a five-term program, beginning in the fall. Our curriculum offers a comprehensive and rigorous experience that guides students to understand the conceptual underpinnings of their work. This is done through discussion of theoretical texts in grad seminar, research, writing, visiting artist lectures and studio visits. Opportunities to travel, study and establish an international network of professional colleagues through the Keith and Win Shantz Research Scholarship also exist. The pedagogical component of our program helps students build a teaching portfolio geared at the post-secondary level. This includes two teaching assistant positions, a grad seminar that looks at art school from a pedagogical perspective, professional practice workshops and the opportunity to teach a studio course at the introductory level.
