About the course
The Master of Fine Arts program is a 60 credit hour, two-year professional program in Studio Art. The student is expected to demonstrate mastery of technique and processes in studio art. In addition the student is required to demonstrate written and verbal competency through the preparation and defense of a thesis. Applicants who wish to specialize in ceramics, design, fashion design, electronic studio, interior design, painting or sculpture must complete 60 credits of graduate coursework. The required categories of coursework includes - 36 credits in Studio (24 credits in concentration area and 12 credits in elective studio courses) , 12 credits in Art History, 6 credits in Thesis Seminar, 6 credits with the Thesis Advisor and Thesis Committee. How to apply
Entry requirements for Howard University
M.F.A. applicants must submit: A portfolio of 15-20 slides with no more than two views of any one work, presented through Slideroom.com. The images must be clearly marked as to title, materials, size, and date. A biographical essay, typed and double-spaced, consisting of no more than two pages. The essay may deal with personal history, motivational aspirations, and goals. Two letters of recommendation. Students applying for acceptance into the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 for admission into the program. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) a score of 90 on the Internet base (IBT) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Official TOEFL scores must be sent directly from ETS. The TOEFL test is only waived if the applicant has received a degree in the U.S. In lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
