About the course

The Fiber specialization is part of the Applied Design emphasis in the Art major. Fiber classes teach both traditional and experimental practices, providing students with the technical training and conceptual understanding to develop a mature and independent direction within the textile sensibility.

　　The courses reflect a broad range of current fiber art. Surface Design courses focus on the creation of color and pattern with dyes, as well as the three-dimensional manipulation of both the fabric and its surface. Fiber Structuring is taught through hand construction techniques such as coiling, twining, crochet, knitting, and tapestry weaving. In each of the areas, students are encouraged to use traditional and alternative materials and ideas in pursuit of a unique visual voice. How to apply

Entry requirements for San Diego State University

Have earned an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or one approved by a Ministry of Education. A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or about 80%) or higher is required to be considered for admission. TOEFL minimum score of 80 iBT/ 550 PBT, IELTS overall score of 6.5 or higher. All students must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the university with classified graduate standing, as described in Part Two of this bulletin. In general, the student must have completed a bachelor’s degree in studio art or the equivalent from an accredited institution, including twelve units of art history, six units of which comprise a survey of the history of global art. A grade point average of 3.25 or better in upper division art courses is required.
