About the course

The Severe Disabilities program prepares candidates to become leaders within their school communities by working with students with severe (low incidence) disabilities in grades K-12 and adults up to age 22. The emphasis area in Severe Disabilities prepares teachers to serve students who are in need of systematic and individualized instruction. Students will learn to design effective instruction programs, plan and deliver differentiated instruction, effectively manage school classrooms, individual behavior, and implement data-driven and evidence-based interventions. The program integrates coursework with field experience, providing candidates with classroom-based opportunities to experience and implement strategies and procedures taught in special education courses. Entry requirements for University of Utah

In accordance with the Utah State Office of Education?s ruling R277-502-3(5), the University of Utah?s Department of Special Education has established entry requirements designed to ensure that only well qualified individuals enter the program. Minimum requirements for admission in the University of Utah?s Department of Special Education include: a minimum GPA of 3.0, proof of a USBE-cleared fingerprint background check. The Admissions Committee in the Department of Special Education will take a holistic approach to evaluating each applicant?s file by examining: GPA, test scores, letters of recommendation, applicant?s personal statement and work history. Additional information regarding application materials that must be submitted (e.g., letters of recommendation, personal statement) he Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test is a requirement for admission into the Master?s degree programs in the Department of Special Education. Toefl Paper based minimum score 600, Computer Based - 250, Ielts minimum score 7, Toefl Ibt minimum score - 90 (Reading 22, Listening 22, Speaking 23, Writing 23) , Toefl Ibt preferred Score - 100 (Reading 25, Listening 25, Speaking 25, Writing 25)
