About the course

This program covers diverse topics of popular culture, media, gender, sexuality, globalisation and consumer culture. Using real-world examples, you will learn to analyse cultural forms and debate their significance in context.

  This degree is designed for students who want to develop their career by implementing a deeper understanding of cultural process to their industry.

  The Master of Cultural Studies is a postgraduate coursework degree that will build your ability to analyse cultural forms while debating their significance in relation to socio-historical contexts.

  You will complete core units to learn conceptual and methodological tools that will help you apply theories to real-world issues and you will complete elective units according to your interests to make up the required credit points of the course.

How to apply

Entry requirements for The University of Sydney

completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Cultural Studies with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification, or

  an Honours degree in a relevant discipline, or

  relevant professional work experience and a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average or an equivalent qualification.

  If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.

  IELTS score A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band

  Toefl Pbt A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing

  Toefl ibt A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
