Master of Community Planning/Juris Doctor

About the course

The University of Maryland School of Law on the Baltimore campus (UMB) will accept up to 9 credits of MCP coursework towards the JD degree, and the Urban Studies and Planning Program will accept up to 9 credits of JD coursework towards the MCP degree. This means that students who complete both programs can save up to 18 credits. Applicants must apply to each program separately and be accepted by both programs. Only grades of B or better may be transferred. Credits from the MCP program can be transferred to the Law program only if they are taken while the student is enrolled in the Law program and vice versa. This means that students cannot take advantage of the transfer of credits if they have already completed either of the programs. The dual master?s program in Community Planning and Law allows students to pursue the Master of Community Planning through University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland Carey School of Law J.D. program on the Baltimore campus (UCB). The dual degree enables students to complete the MCP and the JD in a shorter period of time than if they earned one degree first and then enrolled in the other degree program, as shown below. The current MCP degree requires the completion of 48 credit hours, while the current JD degree requires 85 credit hours. This means that completing both degrees separately (one after the other) would typically require 133 credit hours. By participating in the dual degree program, the credit hour requirements would instead be 115 credit hours. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships
