The Master of Arts in Teaching is a state-approved initial teacher preparation program that is subject to any change in the Florida Administrative Code (State Board of Education Rule 6A-5.066). The Teacher Education MAT, Science Education - Chemistry program requires a minimum of 39 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Pass all required sections of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination.
Students are required to have 30 credit hours of co-requisite science course work to meet certification requirements to teach science in grades 6-12. These may be previously earned undergraduate or graduate science credits, or include graduate credits in science approved for electives in the program. Only six hours of independent study courses may be used to satisfy degree requirements. It is important to see an adviser if courses are difficult to schedule in content areas.

A TOEFL computer-based score of 220 or 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (or equivalent score on the paper-based test) or 6.5 on the IELTS is required unless otherwise specified by the program.
