About the course

The Special Education and Autism Master of Arts program prepares you to meet the diverse needs of individuals with learning disabilities and on the autism spectrum. This program also provides a springboard for a doctoral program or a career in research for individuals with special needs.

  This full-time program is offered on a quarter calendar beginning in Fall. Students get to choose from Plan I (Thesis) or Plan II (Comprehensive Examination).

  Plan I (Thesis): Students complete a minimum of 36 upper-division and graduate units. At least 24 units are in graduate courses. A maximum of 12 units may be in graduate research for the thesis.

  Plan II (Comprehensive Exam): Students must complete a minimum of 36 units in upper-division and graduate courses in Education and related fields as defined in existing programs. At least 18 of the 36 units must be in graduate courses, and none in graduate research for the thesis. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships

Entry requirements for University of California

Bachelor's Degree 4-year equivalent from accredited institution

  3.0 GPA Junior/Senior years of undergraduate degree

  GRE MA programs only, General Subject Test

  Mail in one copy of all official transcripts in the original sealed envelope from the home institution.

  Acquire three letters of recommendation from academic sources.

  Report GRE scores to UCR. M.A. programs (not required for M.Ed.).

  The Statement of Purpose is your opportunity to discuss your intent for pursuing the graduate program and how it aligns with your career objectives. The Personal History Statement is about your background, culture, economic and social experiences, and how those elements have led you to pursue a graduate degree. Each essay should not exceed 3,000 characters and is uploaded directly to the online application.

  TOEFL - minimum required scores:

  Internet-Based Test (iBT) - 80

  Paper-Based Test (PBT) - 550

  Computer-Based Test (CBT) - 213

  IELTS - minimum required scores:

  Overall score – 7

  Individual/sub-scores – 6

  A minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA or B-equivalent (if GPA is not on a 4.0 scale).
