About the course

The Master's degree and credential programs in the Department of Special Education include professional preparation in special education. The programs include preparation for specialists who may work in early intervention settings, schools, rehabilitation settings, or community agencies with individuals with disabilities. Resources of general education, psychology, counseling, and other human service related fields are utilized. The Master of Arts in Special Education is an individually designed program. This degree emphasizes research and leadership skills within a select program of study. The degree prepares individuals for employment in education in public and private agencies serving people with disabilities and in other related human service fields. Program areas within the department provide students with an opportunity to learn from and participate in, on-going research, demonstration, training, and projects conducted by faculty. Program areas include autism spectrum, early childhood special education, mild to moderate support needs, extensive support needs, orientation and mobility, and visual impairment. How to apply

Entry requirements for San Francisco State University

To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at SF State, an applicant must: hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by appropriate campus authorities, be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended, have a 3.0 GPA in their earned undergraduate degree or last 60 semester (90 quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree. The Division of Graduate Studies minimum TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE Academic scores are: TOEFL : 550 Total score on the paper based test or 80 Overall score on the internet based test (iBT TOEFL) or Overall band score of 6.5
