The Department of Architecture is dedicated to the education of future generations of ethical professionals, creative designers and informed citizens. We believe architecture to be a conceptually based intellectual endeavor and a form of critical inquiry that addresses the physical environment from the scale of the city to the scale of furniture. To realize these objectives, design is taught as a critical and creative enterprise. The Department of Architecture prepares students for professional practice in the discipline of architecture with emphasis placed upon six thematic areas: architectural design, history/theory, building technologies, digital technology, ethics and professional business practice, and general education. The program maintains a commitment to excellence in teaching, creative activity, research and scholarship and seeks to attract a diverse student body with a variety of academic backgrounds, experiences and interests. Applicants must submit a portfolio of creative work via the Get Acceptd web portal. The portfolio should also include a current resume. The portfolio review examines evidence of creative ability, academic success, and professional achievement.
Applicants must have 3 letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf via the Get Acceptd web portal.
Applicants must submit a Statement of Intent clearly indicating which area of specialization they intend to pursue and why. The statement should include the applicant’s motivation for pursuing advanced study. Applicants will be evaluated on the strength of their statement, personal achievement, and their commitment to making a meaningful contribution to the field through their research.
Applicants must submit a writing sample that demonstrates the candidate’s written communication skills. The sample does not have to be related to the proposed area of specialization. It should be a minimum of 500 words.
