About the course

The Fiber specialization is part of the Applied Design emphasis in the Art major. Fiber classes teach both traditional and experimental practices, providing students with the technical training and conceptual understanding to develop a mature and independent direction within the textile sensibility.

　　The courses reflect a broad range of current fiber art. Surface Design courses focus on the creation of color and pattern with dyes, as well as the three-dimensional manipulation of both the fabric and its surface. Fiber Structuring is taught through hand construction techniques such as coiling, twining, crochet, knitting, and tapestry weaving. In each of the areas, students are encouraged to use traditional and alternative materials and ideas in pursuit of a unique visual voice. Entry requirements for San Diego State University

Advancement to Candidacy

　　will have earned an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or one approved by a Ministry of Education, the term immediately prior to enrollment.

　　Applicants who have earned a three-year baccalaureate degree from an international institution, may be considered for admission. Applicants with a three-year baccalaureate degree in progress at the time of application are not eligible for graduate consideration.

　　A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or about 80%) or higher is required to be considered for admission.
