About the course

Studying for an MA or MSc by Research can be an excellent opportunity to develop your intellectual skills and your academic interest in a particular field. The Masters by Research is a 12 month research project (24 months part-time). It is distinct from our taught Masters programmes and involves planning, implementing and writing up a research project. You will be supervised by two members of academic staff and will be encouraged to submit your work for publication at the end of the course.

　　Our research in geomorphology spans soil erosion, hillslope and river sediment flux, peatland processes and 3D landscape evolution modelling. We predominantly work in upland environments in the UK and arctic/alpine river catchments worldwide. Upland and alpine environments are vulnerable to climate change and under pressure from intensive human activity, such as land management practices and water resource management. However, these environments also offer important ecosystems services and can be impacted by severe natural hazards. They are a target environment for natural flood management practices. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Leeds

The minimum entry requirement for a Masters by Research is a UK 2.1 honours degree or equivalent. IELTS: 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in all components. TOEFL IBT (Internet-based TOEFL): 87 with a minimum score of 20 in listening and reading, 21 in writing and 22 in speaking.
