About the course

The Certificate Program in Counseling Psychology is for individuals who already have a

  master?s degree in Counseling Psychology or a ly related MA degree in psychology, and are

  seeking to obtain state of Michigan licensure as a Temporary Limited License as a Psychologist

  (TLLP)/Limited License as a Psychologist (LLP) in Michigan by completing additional graduate

  coursework, practicum and/or internship training. These individuals have already applied for

  licensure to the state with their master?s degree and been informed that they must complete

How to apply

Entry requirements for Western Michigan University

Admission to the Certificate Program in Counseling Psychology is based upon grade point

  average, educational background, letters of recommendations, completion of an appropriate MA

  psychology degree, completion of required background checks, as well as other factors.

  Applicants are required to complete and return online application materials and supplemental

  department questionnaire. In addition, applicants must already have applied for a Temporary

  Limited License (TLLP)/Limited License as a psychologist with the state of Michigan. They also

  must have received a written decision letter regarding licensure from the state informing them of

  any additional coursework and/or practicum/internship requirements that must be completed to

  establish eligibility for the license. O

  An overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in the last two years of undergraduate work.

  Complete and return a questionnaire prepared by the department

  Interviews letters of recommendation test scores and other materials may also be required

  GPA educational background counseling and or related experiences as well as other factors

  A resume or curriculum vitae CV is required please submit within the online application system Note for Resume This should be no more than two pages in length and in addition to the standard elements of a resume eg educational and paid work experiences etc please be sure you identify and clearly label all volunteer human service experience including starting and ending dates

  This program requires three recommendation letters Be certain that persons who are knowledgeable of your academic work andor your professional experience to date fill out the recommendation forms eg professors employers supervisors Please send email requests for such recommendation from within the online system

  Please prepare a statement which covers the following information and attach it within the online application

  On no more than two typewritten doublespaced pages write an essay discussing your professional goals Give attention to work with racial or ethnic minorities and diverse populations throughout your essay Include a your reason for wanting to be in a specific program b your professional goals as they relate to that program c an assessment of your personal assets and liabilities and d life experiences that might be useful in your work as a helping professional including your work with racialethnic minorities and diverse populations

  An official transcript from the institution from which you received your bachelor degree is required as well as a transcript from the institutions where any additional graduate level courses or degrees have been takencompleted Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses takencompleted at WMU

  Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL 80 iBT graduate.

  TOEFL Essential 8 Graduate.

  International English Language Testing System IELTS Academic - 6.5 graduate.

  Pearson Test of English Academic Module PTE - 54 graduate.
