Vision research projects in molecular and cell biology include investigations into gene therapy for inherited retinal degeneration, neurobiology of photoreceptors, infectious keratitis in contact lens wearers, pathogenesis of bacterial infection of the cornea, photochemistry of visual pigments and bacterial rhodopsin, epithelial function and regulation, membrane biophysics, corneal physiology, ocular disease processes, myopia, cataract, transplant rejection, ocular inflammation, dry eye, and eye growth regulation. Entry requirements for University of California - Berkeley

Admission to the Vision Science Phd program is based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement and relevant experience. Because this program is designed to develop research scientists, it is important that applicants are familiar with an experimental lab setting. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our program, we accept students with various backgrounds including psychology, optometry, engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, biophysics, neuroscience, mathematics, molecular and cell biology and integrative biology. You must have a bachelor?s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. Transcripts, GRE Test Scores, Letters of Recommendation, Essay Questions, Satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale, Undergraduate training to do graduate work in your chosen field, Please note the minimum Toefl scores for the Internet-based Test (iBT) is 90 and for the Paper-based Test (pBT) it is 570.
