Our doctor of philosophy (PhD) program in physics prepares students for careers across a spectrum of scientific pursuits. PhD students will be equipped with the experience and knowledge necessary to build a career in the advancement of scientific knowledge or education at the highest levels, which can open doors to careers in research and development in academia, government, and private industry.
Our department offers research opportunities in theoretical, experimental and computational astronomy and astrophysics, biophysics, and condensed matter and materials physics. PhD candidates in the program will work ly with faculty advisors to create a path of study that culminates in a dissertation defense based on independent research of a publishable quality. Grade point average: The minimum undergraduate GPA for admission consideration for graduate study at the University of Denver is a cumulative 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits (approximately two years of work) for the baccalaureate degree. An earned master?s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution supersedes the minimum standards for the baccalaureate.
