About the course

Condensed matter physics is the study of basic physical phenomena in solids, liquids, and intermediate states of matter such as glasses, and includes such topics as phase transitions in various physical properties, electronic and crystalline structures, limited-dimensionality effects (thin films, nanowires), soft condensed matter, disordered crystals and glasses, polymers, and biological materials. New materials and structures are synthesized and their structural, electronic, magnetic, optical, thermal, and transport properties are investigated.

Entry requirements for University of Nebraska - Lincoln

　　If International: upload copies of all college- or university-level transcripts or mark sheets (records of courses and marks earned), with certi?cates, diplomas, and degrees plus certi?ed English translations.* Official documents are required from all students who are admitted and enroll. Photocopies of certi?ed records are not acceptable. International students enrolled in other U.S. institutions may have certi?ed copies of all foreign records sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies by their current school?s registrar office. 　　Statement of Purpose: This statement should describe your academic and research background and accomplishments, research interests, professional goals, and reasons for pursuing a graduate degree at UNL.

　　Faculty: Identify up to four faculty members you are interested in working with.

　　A bachelor?s degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, or other ly related area from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or an equivalent degree from another country.

　　Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater (on the 4.0 scale) is preferred as a general guideline.

　　As a rule, applicants should have completed upper-level core physics courses in classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and thermal/statistical physics.

　　Demonstrated English proficiency (score of 80 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS test) if English is not the applicant's native language or the official language of instruction at the institution where the degree was earned.
