About the course

The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers graduate training in a variety of subjects including acoustics, astronomy, atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter, optics, plasma, and theory. The department provides abundant opportunities and support for its students and expects them to experience the excitement of discovering new knowledge as they contribute to the on-going development of these age-old disciplines. The PhD program prepares students for professional careers in astronomy and astrophysics. These careers include faculty positions at universities and colleges and work in research institutions and private and national astronomical observatories. How to apply

Entry requirements for Brigham Young University - Provo

Baccalaureate degree or equivalent preparation in physics or astronomy

　　GRE General test and GRE Physics subject test

　　Receive at least a 3.0 grade-point average in the cumulative undergraduate GPA from a regionally accredited university in the United States, or a comprehensive grade-point average of 3.0 from an equivalent university outside the United States.

　　IELTS - Overall minimum band score of 7.0 (consisting of minimum band scores of 6.0 in each module)

　　TOEFL (paper based test) - 580

　　TOEFL iBT (internet based test) - Minimum subscores of 22 (Speaking) and 21 (Listening, Reading, & Writing respectively) comprising an overall score at least 85.
