How to apply
Entry requirements for Montana State University
All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General (Aptitude) Test and Subject (GRE-physics) Test in Physics before submitting their applications, Please include a personal statement in the form of a short essay which should include personal and academic background, research interests, reasons for selecting this program, and your future aspirations. All applicants must submit transcripts showing proof of a bachelor’s degree, all post-bachelors transcripts, and any transcripts including 60 or more credits taken prior to the completion of a bachelor’s degree. Recommendations should be from individuals qualified to assess your ability and potential as a graduate student. Three (3) letters of reference. Applicants will be asked to provide information about their references. The electronic process will prompt each reference to submit a signed reference letter in English. A personal statement. Evidence of English Language Proficiency. MSU requires applicants from countries where English is a second language to present evidence of proficiency in the use of the English language. Typical tests and scores are as follows: TOEFL: 80-internet-based [iBT] or 550-PBT, IELTS: 6.5
An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale). Applicants with post-baccalaureate coursework must have a graduate GPA of at least 3.00.
