About the course
The Doctor of Philosophy program in Nutritional Sciences prepares students for faculty and post-doctorate positions as well as careers in various industry settings. The Nutritional Sciences doctorate degree has three tracks: 1) Community Nutrition, 2) Nutritional Biochemistry and Physiology, and 3) Clinical Nutrition. The degree requires a minimum of 72 hours (including 12 dissertation hours and at least 12 hours in the specialized track area) beyond a Bachelor of Science degree. A maximum of 30 hours of transfer credit from the student’s master’s program can be allowed. Limited financial assistance as scholarships, fellowships, and research or teaching assistantships is available. Faculty research interests include the role of nutrition in obesity, eating disorders, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, inflammation, gut microbes, food insecurity, malnutrition, metabolic dysfunction, cardio metabolic disease, and dietetics. A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US college/university or a recognized equivalent degree from a non-US university recognized by the appropriate government entity in that country to award undergraduate degrees.
